All carpets of Isabel Bürgin’s collection are hand-woven to a high standard in Switzerland. As the designer cooperates very closely with the manufacturers of her products, she can cater to the individual needs of her customers. Since 2013, the alpaca-blankets AmA are machine-woven by a weaver in the Canton of Bern. Isabel Bürgin herself is a trained weaver and enjoys working on the loom. Some of her products are woven by herself: the rugs weichling, bastard, duo, duo nopp, nopp, prismo and sikohazi, the blanket wollok, the childrens’ rug for minimöbl, the scarfs schal-paca and all individual items or specials in small series. Isabel Bürgin values the good cooperation with all the companies and institutions that produce her designs with dedication and diligence.
Artisan workshops at the Bürgerspital Basel
The artisan workshops offer employment and therapy for physically, psychologically and mentally handicapped people. The weaving mill has been manufacturing individual carpets by Isabel Bürgin since 1998.
The young textile designer, having a diploma from the Higher School of Design Basel, is weaving rugs since 2014 commissioned by Isabel Bürgin. During a practical training at Isabel Bürgins studio Laura Endtner has designed the rug prismo, which is an integral part of the collection since 2015.
In November 2019 Laura Endtner founds LOOM – an open weaving workshop and space for textile exploration in Basel.
Since 1997, the Stiftung ÖKO-JOB has been offering programmes to help unemployed people in Basel-Landschaft and Graubünden find their way back into the job market. In Münchenstein (Basel-Landschaft), the foundation runs a textile manufacturing workshop for women. The team design and manufacture their own products, but weave to order, too. They have been working for Isabel Bürgin since 2006.
